Clark, the Tikka T3 though it is a long action is designed with the mag box back against the trigger group making it shorter and lighter than other long actions such as the Remington 700 action.

In fact when comparing the T3 long action to other various short actions you give up very little.

When comparing Long action rounds such as the 270 the design of the tikka is a plus as far as weight savings.

I didn't know the action was shorter than a 700. Thanks for the info. I've been wanting a light weight 270 and with the Montana at 5 lbs 10 oz in the 270, I thought I might as well try a Tikka SL since I don't own a Tikka. I do have a Sako 75 Finnlight in 270 that seemed light when I bought it but surly isn't by today's standards. I love the 270 even if it is gay.
