I think I recall that sideplate mount...that was a LONG time ago and have not seen them in years...that said I am not sure how well it would stand up to .41 Magnum recoil.

If you have an older 57 the only secure way to attach a scope is by having the topstrap D&T just like Smiths come from the factory today. They are available in Brownells I believe...just need a decent smith to do the work...

I have a 70s vintage 57 8 3/8" with a Leupold base and 2-6 Bushnell scope...it is a great shooter...
