Any good powder for a 30-30 will work well in the 9,3X72R.
I load 42gr IMR 30-31 under 193gr jacketed bullets. Bray's solution to bullets is a GREAT one if you plan to shoot it a bit.
I also load 15gr of Trail Boss under the .365 95gr bullets for the Makarov. It's a great plinker and small game load.
I forgot to mention that. I do the same thing (haven't tried the trail boss powder yet, but I will). The POI will be different at over 25 yards or so for most guns. I sometimes take my old hammer drilling loaded with these and a 22lr einstecklauf in the right 16 barrel squirrel hunting. Have nailed quite a few with the makarov pills. Fun walk in the woods between deer & turkey seasons
