Where I am in New England the Commander in .38 Super works just fine. When I was visiting Mackay in Idaho I carried nothing but a 4" S&W N-frame in .41 Magnum for over two months... That said if I needed to combine the two I would look at a 1911 5" GM size gun in 10mm...something like the Kimber Stainless Target II. A 180 grain bullet at 1300 fps far out does a 9mm or .45 ACP...
