Looking at moving later this year. Couple of the houses I've come across in web searches are past the end of the power lines and off grid for electric. Limited info on the realestate sites, but they have have solar with battery banks and generators (no details given). Both have at least two heat sources (propane and wood). Satellite TV and internet. Wells and septic tanks. Gas stoves. At least one specifies gas hot water (probably both). Both houses built around 2005-2008. Wooded properties (10 acres or 100 acres).
So...anyone here living full time off the electric grid? Experiences? Do's and don'ts? Things to check when I go see the properties?
I'm ok on wells, septic tanks, wood stoves. It's the electrical system that will be new to me.
