Thought I would share my experience with 250gr Elite hunters in 338 Win Mag with the guys on the forum.

I am in the process of changing calibers but had to stick with 338 for now as in RSA it takes some time to get approval from officials to 'convert' to a new caliber. The rifle is a trued Kimber 8400 action and stock with new barrel.

The numbers looks quite good with the Elite hunter as I am getting 2700 fps with a G7 of .351. In my case this is reviving my 338 Win Mag and making it attractive again grin. The problem I had with these is that I almost had to seat them with the ogive in the neck to even come close to mag length and still did not fit. Just for interest sake I seated them with the ogive just past the neck, with a jump of around .22 of an inch, which is massive.

All of my 3 shot groups came in under 1 inch at 100m but the 2 hottest loads was sub half inch at 100m. The one group basically formed an oval hole for 3 shots. I then loaded several more of the load producing 2700 fps and it stays sub half moa out to 440m. I will stretch it out later in the month.

I have since removed the spacer in the back of the mag box and can now feed these from the mag and have plenty of room to play with seating depth, even jam length. The interesting thing for me was that jumping these .22 of an inch produced excellent results and guess this can be encouraging for guys wanting to try these.

Here is a pic of the Berger next to 225gr TTSX. TTSX is jumping only around .07" compared to the .22" of the Berger.

Just for comparison next to a 150gr Sierra 30 cal. (sorry, it is a little out of focus but was in a hurry)

Bullets like these can revive old cartridges.
