If you want to spend less try the Shimano Sienna 1000. It's not as smooth as a Shimano Symetre or other higher end reels but it's smooth enough. I've got reels costing a lot more but my two Shimano Siennas, a 2500 and a 1000 at around $30 each have worked well for me for a few years. I've been using the 2500 for everything from light saltwater to freshwater bass fishing and the 1000 for small stream trout, reservoir crappie and bluegills. No maintenance, no problems.
