I shot a small mule deer buck with a 185 VLD a few years ago and gave the rest away to a friend. He was quartering towards me and it absolutely flattened the deer but during processing we found alot of bullet fragments. Enough so that I didn't want to eat some of it and ended up trashng about 20%. It's a sample of one but I have heard other say they have had similar experiences with the VLDs.
