Plus there is the ever present "Inshallah" attitude, which is the pretty fatalistic.
I wouldn't read too much into "Inshallah" , it has become just an expression similar to saying 'Jesus' in appropriate or inappropriate situations.
I worked with Kurds in early 1970s , their identity comes before anything , they are traditional muslims ( weddings , funerals and some holidays ...).
many of their customs are in direct conflict with fanatical muslims ( like women dancing together, colorful clothing for both men and women and a lot more).
as I mentioned they don't give a damn , they are Kurds first.
