My gun cradle has been modified a bit to accomodate recoil. I cast some lead tubes and put that additional weight into the frame of my gun cradle. Now it is a bit like a lead sled but with the lead built right in. In addition I usually place a sand bag across the front of the cradle to add even more weight . I have a tendancy toward flinching even with light calibers so this set up helps with that. My heavy rifles are only a 300 WSM, 35 Whelen, and 375 H & H but I use the heavy cradle with even the light calibers.
