The local spud farmers are just starting to dig now, many of the high schools are out for potato harvest. We live about 10 miles from several people that dig hundreds & hundreds of acres of Russets, Reds & Yukon Golds, plus a few other kinds of taters. There will be lots of people from northern Utah with trailers, horse trailers, etc. picking up anywhere from 10 to 200 sacks at a time. Most of these guys sell them for $10 for a 50 lb. sack & these taters are huge, one would feed 2 adults easy! They aren't like the small potatoes you find in the stores.

The place where we go also sells onions, cook books, Johnnys seasoning & gives everyone free french fries while you're waiting. If you've never tried Johnny;s seasoning on french fries, burgers, steaks, etc you are missing out, it's a wonderful seasoning. Here's a photo of a few hints for storing, cooking fresh Idaho taters right from the growers.
