A few years back when I was visiting their house my mother had gone out to pick up some take out food for supper and had not bothered to mention she needed gas, was returning a couple library books, had to stop at the grocery store,,,, he was 82 at the time and I had never heard him use this one:
"Waiting for your mother to bring supper is like leaving the runway lights on for Amelia Earhart."
