Had an Encore that was not used very much.Decided I wanted a super accurate rifle that would hone my lacking accuracy shooting skills.
Sent it off to Virgin Valley Arms (believe they are now out of business) approx. ten-fifteen years ago to be rebarreld in 6 mm Rem Ackley Imp.Specified 26" SS,bull contour target quality barrel that would be used for mainly lighter weight bullets.They recommended a 1-12 twist and they did a very nice job of it.
Had only played with it a little bit using the Nosler 80 gr. Bal.Tip and it did quite well with H4350,but thought I was not getting the full potential from it.Sent it back to VV and they had one of their local specialists ring it out and it certainly was more capable than I was.
Finally stumbled onto some info that Superformance was the go to powder for this round! Sure enough,had hit on the sweet spot for this one.Accuracy well under MOA and velocity more than expected. Now the big question,how do you judge pressure levels in a single shot? I'm not seeing any of the usual warning signs that usually appear in a turnbolt rifle.Velocity is 3750fps with the 80 or 75 grainers which seems like a lot but the rifle does not show abnormal primers,brass looks good and everything working fine.But am I in " danger land "? Published charge weights are slightly over those listed for the std. 6 mm Rem. with similar bullet weights. Makes me wonder!!!!
