Public safety would dissolve as crooks would be emboldened knowing that there are no threats to them. Home invasions would increase, muggings would increase. The single women out there who are "afraid of guns" and "want them gone" would have zero chance of protecting themselves against multiple attackers. The attacker wouldn't even need illegal guns. A pipe, a chain, a baseball bat.
