Your fears were unfounded.
They are a pleasure to shoot. I have a 338 Winchester Magnum stocked in a McMillan Bridges with Edge fill and it's a pussy cat at 8lbs scoped..
I also have a 300 Weatherby Magnum in standard fill that is likewise easy to shoot.
Maybe if you have real small hands. The grip on that stock just looks uncomfortable to me...
My glove size is a L/XL, depending upon brand.
I can easily palm a basketball.
As far as handling recoil goes, the 338 Win Mag has Edge fill and shoots a 225 TSX at 2900 FPS. Rifle weight is 8 lb exactly with a Zeiss 2.5 X8 Conquest.
