I had the same concerns with angled spotters, but after awhile it seems to be one of those skills that becomes instinctive. I get on target as fast, and usually faster than my buddies with their straight scopes.

PRO - I like that an angled spotter is positioned lower, which helps with tripod stability.

CON - I find it harder to shield the eyepiece from mist and rain, without a cover/drape. I can protect a straight spotter easier.
