I have an older Herters commercial M98 action originally in 7mm RM, looked at opening the action up to 3.6". To go beyond 3.5" would require new bottom metal along with other modifications. At least on that action, it's not as easy as it sounds. My plan changed from 375 H&H to 375 Ruger for that action (when the time comes to build it).
