Local group is shooting steel matches with 22lr rifle and looks like fun. Most are running 10/22 clones/customs or AR’s. I acknowledge the 10/22 is a foolproof option, but have no interest. Any thought on 22lr AR’s that are reliable and allow for some customization? For example, from reading it appears the ColtUmarex gets panned. The M&P pretty good but plastic and not accepting of many changes. And compass lake kit apparently well thought of, and do have a spare upper/lower here, though clearly an expensive route and do not know how reliable they are (meaning, for $1000-1500 finished that sucker better run like butter).
