Back in the 1980's they were popular here in WI. as a way to cheat the system by being able to use a handgun in the southern shotgun only deer hunting zones. Lots of those "handguns" were chambered in large, long range cartridges. When we went to rifles allowed state wide for deer season now, I don't hear about Contenders very often.
