Using the Burris 336 base you can mount a Fastfire in the rear two holes but it overhangs the back of the receiver a bit, maybe 1/2" or less IIRC. Not enough to keep from reaching the hammer but it does get in the way of your thumb. Never tried a hammer side extension such as would be used with a scope but that should work fine. I just mounted mine in the front two holes. The Fastfire does work great on a lever action carbine, sight height is about halfway between a peep and the lowest mounted scope. Not the best sight for super precise target work but very fast to use and perfect within your point blank range - just put the dot where you want to hit and fire.
