I’m obliged for all the purchasing suggestions but you can see that I bought one the day after I made my OP.

As far as a Winchester, I bought one in mid sixties and it wouldn’t feed properly. Soured me on anything Winchester when the Dealer wouldn’t fix it.
The mid 60's were the absolute worst 94's ever made. I currently have examples from 1949 and 1979 and have owned several more from the mid 70's to early 90's with never a problem.


That one I bought would not chamber a second round unless you lowered the rifle to waist level and turned it on its side. The dealer thought that was alright. He allowed me 55 bucks trade in value the day after I gave him 65 for it. I chose a Savage 222 and it was a hell of a shooter. I killed quite a few deer and varmints with it.
