Mine were usually taken with a 165 gr ballistic tip from a 30-06 with 60 gr of H4831 behind it. Targets of opportunity while deer hunting. I have killed a few with a 20 ga Wingmaster and dove loads. But I was just shooting their heads off with an unopened shot column.

Blue grouse are not much bigger than a pheasant. 2 3/4" 16 ga loaded with #5 or #6 should work well.
