How do you test scopes to determine their durability to multiple recoils and to impacts? Applying the force is easy, rather how do they measure whether the optics train components have shifted? Is there a way to reliably reattach a scope to a device to measure the image quality and position if the reticle?

I’ve read how Leupold test scopes on their “punisher” but I’ve not heard if that includes measuring whether there is any reticle shift. Just curious.

I’ve had a few scopes with internal failures on recoil (not Leupold). That’s easy enough see when it happens. It’s the very subtle changes that develop over time and from shot to shot that can be insidious. Had that happen on a Leupold and it drove me nuts trying figure out what was wrong. That was what lead me to wonder whether the punisher tests include periodic fine measurements of the optical train/erector system.
