This cow got Scenar'ed with my 20" .308 T3. she was a shade over 600 yards (about 615).
She was moving through the trees and while I actually meant to put the bullet right behind her shoulder, I caught her square on the shoulder, but given the uphill shooting position that I had I did not complain.

It is the only time I have ever caught one of the projectiles too. Found it just inside the offside hide.
Did precisely what I needed it to do. Filled my freezer with zero drama, as always.





The .308 is a short range gun.
It does not have the energy to cleanly kill big animals like elk past 400 yards.
It is under powered compared to the 30-06.
You can't shoot heavy bullets in it.


This elk died from laughing too hard (at the Sako TRG .308) as the bullet bounced off her at 400 yards. cool

All that said, I have a JC Higgins FN Mauser 30-06 at a gunsmiths getting a list of things done to make it completely squared away. Hard to go wrong with a 30-06, especially as a handloader.
