The thoroughly cleaned and boiled skull ( minus the lower jaw) is weighed with the antlers attached. A 10 kilo stag is a CIC gold medal and hard to come by. Mine was an 8X7 but the number of points can vary wildly.
Just to give you an idea, this one went a tad over 9kg. And that's the lodging in the background.
