You can pick up a 45-70 anytime, but there has only been one (or two?) runs of 30-30 made.

Regarding recoil and the No.1 in 45-70 with 'Ruger Only' loads (I.ve had a No.1 & No.3 in 45-70)... Your 500 NE did not weigh 7 - 71/4 pounds (prior to scoping). Even so, my hats off to you===> even though I've never shot the No.1 in 500 N.E. I am sure it would rock my world!
