I've had good luck with Champion Honda clones. They are a Chinese made unit, but Champion has decent quality control and they have always worked well for me. I just saw a dual fuel, (gas/propane) Champion 3500/4000? for sale at Sam's Club for about 350 bucks. They also sell the Champions at Tractor Supply. Most the time they are in the 300 to 400 dollar range. Don't go any lower than the 3500/4000 watt units to run stuff in your house. With that size you can run a forced air gas furnace, refrigerators and small 120v AC units. You can't run large 220v driers or ranges, etc. Mine get great fuel economy for what they are, and will run 12 hours or so on a low draw. Some people think bigger is better, but if you don't need a larger Wattage unit, you just use a bunch of gas for nothing. Remember, you have to feed the beast, so get just enough to get you through a outage and not suck down fuel at a high rate. You can buy 3 Champions for less than one Honda.
