Went down looking at trucks with my FIL as he is looking at a new Ram Truck. He is trying to save a buck and is thinking of going with the 6.4 hemi instead of the 6.7 cummins.
Towing wise, this will be used to pull a 7-8k travel trailer and maybe haul around his show car once in a while. - So no issues with capacity or anything like that. And yes, I and Him both know it won't pull like a deisel, but he can also save 7k right off the top. I see they offer this engine with 4:10 gears - seems that would be the way to go?
I did read online some reviews saying the gear rations from 1st-2nd-3rd sucked and it suffered on towing? Thoughts on this engine?
I have a 2016 Ram 2500 with the 6.4 hemi ( 6 speed) & 3.73 gears.Towing heavy get about 9.9 MPG empty city/highway 14.0 mpg. Truck has been trouble free but only 44,000 miles on the OD.
