The primary advantage of the 308, over the 30-06, is the wide variety of rifles available for the former. With similar rifles and loads, I could never tell a nickel's worth of difference in their recoil. I've used them both on deer and varmints. Both kill cleanly to 300 yards, assuming good placement. They are work-horse cartridges.

All that said- I've only shot a couple of 358s and fell in love with cartridge- particularly in a 20" BLR.
