So far as I can tell, I am a basic Anglo Saxon mutt, with a little Mohawk Indian thrown in (but not enough to get me a casino check). I don't have a lick of French or German DNA in my background.

So as a disinterested third party, I have no biases either way, as far as German vs French culinary traditions. French food is lauded all over the world, but for my money, German food is better. I haven't eaten extensively from either culture's food tradition, but from my limited exposure, German food has always been tops.

Fantastic sausages, schnitzel, wonderful potato and sauerkraut dishes. The beer is among the world's finest. And the baked goods! Stollen, marzipan candies, pfeffernusse, etc etc...

I don't know how every German doesn't weigh 500 pounds. If I lived over there I'd be dead of heart disease within 5 years. Hell, I could absolutely kill myself eating nothing but Kinder Bueno candy bars.

The French may get the honors but for me, I'll take a plate of German grub every time.
