a former client of mine, now deceased, flew one of those in europe during the war. he hit france day plus two, flying over the channel. Didn't have a gas guage, had a cork floating in a glass vial to indicate gas levels.
he had some interesting stories, like landing at what he thought was an abandoned luftwaffe base, and taxing up to the hangers when he noticed they grey uniforms running towards him, oh oh.
when they took sauer, germany he pocketed a little 38h pistol, stuck it in his duffle bag. next day he got shot from ground fire, about a year in the hospital. couple years after the war his duffle bag showed up, pistol still in it. brand new off the assembly line. He did let me take it a part and clean it, eventually went to his son.
Bob was a great guy.
