My Ross is a commercial sporter in 280. Yes the bolt can be put together wrong and I never would expect this gun to function in trench conditions. The Ross cleaned up at Bisley one year but this was becasue they were shooting the 280, not because of the rifle. The stock is quite slim and the floor plate is flush with the bottom of the stock. I have never seen sporters in 303 but that does not mean they don't exist. Most were cut down military rifles.
