How are the holes positioned? Almost for sure those would have been for a peep sight. If they're near the back of the reciever on the left side and vertical they may be for a Redfield 102 peep sight
If they're on the side and horizontal they could be for a number of side mount peeps. EBay has a good selection of peeps for sale at any given time to help you visualize.
However, if it has holes elsewhere that might support the forward end of the scope then it may be possible.
