The #1 reticle is only popular with those that use it. It's not conducive to shooting small groups, target shooting, or holdovers at long range. However for shooting "things" at moderate range or low light, it's hard to beat. Before the advent of reliable illuminated reticles and night vision scopes, it was the choice of European hunters where 100 yards is a long shot and most hunting is at night.
