Yes you could buy blank G&H bases (I have one), but who would try to mount all that mass of a G&H mount plus the weight of the scope onto two small screws.

I'm still liking the idea of a turn-of-the-century scope mount- store bought or craftsman built- that utilized the rear sight dovetail for the front mount. (Thinking in terms of external adjustment scopes that were to be found 100+ years ago.)

Did Warner&Swasey make their prismatic scope adaptable to sporting rifles?
