Thanks. in the pic it looks small, but that's a big bastard.

Here's a small one I got a couple winters ago while out with the dog after dark. He was only about six feet over my head and wasn't going anywhere.

Nice. Locally we have a few flavors of owls.

Owls (Strigiformes)

Eastern Screech-Owl
Great Horned Owl
Snowy Owl
Northern Hawk Owl
Barred Owl
Great Gray Owl
Long-eared Owl
Short-eared Owl
Boreal Owl
Northern Saw-whet Owl

I'm a fan of them. One time while viewing a squirrel through a scope, one I was just about to perforate with a .22LR round, my view suddenly became blurry with motion. I looked up from the scope to see the squirrel springing up backflipping in horror just as the large great horned went for him, talons wide open to make the lethal snatch. Squirrel evaded. Owl looked unhappy and perhaps confused. 'Now how the fugg did I miss him?' wink

Fun farm fact: 'The Snowy Owl does not mate for life but instead remains monogamous for only one breeding season.'
