Being a stainless steel firearms fanatic, I used to have Warne stainless scope bases on my M70 Featherweights. I had some problems with the edges chipping off of them, (Sintered metal technology), so I stopped using them. I am sure this is why Warne discontinued the stainless bases. I recently found an alternative, that is, with some work involved. Stratton Custom makes Stainless scope bases for T/C Contenders and Encores. I noticed the had some bases marked down from $59 to $34 each. So, I ordered a couple of these bases and applied my "early Kyber Pass Gunsmith like" skills and modified pieces of these bases to work on my Winchesters. Basically I cut them into the pieces I needed and cut the cross slot for the front base. After that, I machined the pieces to the proper height and receiver contour. I then drilled and counter bored the mounting holes, trimmed, deburred and bead blasted them. RJ
