Well, it is the NYT, so what do you expect?
They rather arbitrarily chose 2 miles as the cut-off for travel. Most of those southern counties highlighted in red are
rural. Ya know, where even the nearest grocery store may be well beyond that distance.
And, lets just ignore the fact that the hotspots currently in the South are
urban centers like Miami and New Orleans.
