I have a Redfield 2-7x32 on my "longer range" deer rifle (currently a Ruger 338 Federal) and a Burris straight 4X on my 1894SS.

I have used the Redfield on a couple of other guns but hate it on 2X as it ghosts the front sights. So I carry it on 2.5X and increase power as needed. Unless it is really thick, it spends a lot of time on 4X. I have never felt a need for anything else on the 44 mag.

I went with the Redfield simple because I don't like a bigger scope. To go to a 3-9X I would have to go to a 40mm bell.

If it wasn't for our antler point restriction, I would shoot open sights but I have lost shot opportunities switching from rifle to binoculars to check number of points, and then back to rifle. In PA deer season, they don't stand still long. At least the ones still alive....
