Can't go wrong with the 8 twist. Hammer is conservative as is the Berger twist calculator. If I shoot out either of my current 25s the 06 will get a 7 twist and the Weatherby a 7 or 7.25 depending on if even heavier and pointier bullets are available then. But I don't worry too much about the 1-10 twist of my Weatherby I always thought it was for speed and I shoot mostly 100-117 gr. bullets. The 6.5s & 7mm can handle the VLD bullet uses.

I am sure there is a point where too much twist could hurt accuracy but I don't know how fast that would be. I have seen 6 twisted .224s that were accurate out to a 1,000 and could still shoot most light bullets, just not the super thin jacketed ones.
