60 years ago today, Yamaguchi Otoya assassinated the leader of the Marxist Socialist party of Japan, Asanuma Inejirō. Yamaguchi used his credentials as a police officer to gain access to the stage where Asanuma was participating in a debate, then stabbed him to death using a traditional Japanese sword. This single act likely prevented Marxism from taking hold in Japan during the 60s.

Asanuma was cozy with China and had appeared in public wearing a Mao suit several times. During a speech in Beijing he declared the United States the #1 enemy of both China and Japan.

Just one of many examples where a commitment to Nationalism saved a country and its people from ruin.
