The West Pastures are good. I saw good mulie bucks scouting before the hunt (yes they let me the day before and the morning before the hunt) sparring in Lone Canyon. I had the number one draw so I took that unit. After that I saw mainly slickhead mulies and some lesser bucks.

I would get high on the canyon walls and mostly glass the other side and the canyons. In the late afternoon I would go to the waterholes. This was a late October hunt so they weren't in rut. The dates you are there should give you some rut activity.

No one connected on our hunt but some others saw bucks in the western units. Being archery and not rifle was a hindrance.

Saw whitetail s in the eastern units where it flattened out but some of the WT bucks are in the western units.i don't know if your just limited to mulies but some of the WT bucks get pretty big there.

Let me know if you have other questions. I'm no expert on Matador but have some experience.

Good luck and let us know how you do!

Oh and the rattler s out there will move when it is cooler so watch out.
