Yes, it's a good one. After approximately #285,000 RI receivers were made of nickel steel and were on par with the nickel steel receivers that Springfield Armory switched to later. In fact, when RI shut down '03 production, all the NS receivers they had left over were bundled off to Springfield where they were filtered into Springfield's production line.

As with any of these old rifles, no matter where/when made, a fellow is smart to have headspace checked before shooting them. One doesn't know if the original bolt was swapped out by Bubba or not.
