The main problem with German cop shows is that they want to write hard boiled characters, but they just come off as pretentious arses plus they don't even shoot the criminal, even if it's clear cut self defense.
Jesse Stone as a crime series cleverly subverts this and gives us a believable, sympathetic, hard-boiled police chief who actually shoots people when they try to kill him.
Justified is a good show, too, but I wouldn't want to live in the same jurisdiction as Marshall Raylan Givens.
