Not quite. Ever see the movie? It's an effort to make someone question the very reality that's right in front of them, plain to see, by means of a barrage of input from others that contradicts that reality. The classic example is to dramatically alter the furniture arrangement in someone's house, and then, when they take note of it and ask how it happened, tell them that it's always been like that, and then ask them if they are feeling okay, and maybe suggest they see a psychiatrist.
