So I have decided to go down the Thompson Encore rabbit hole. I have already purchased the frame and now I am going to get MGM to make me a barrel. Right now I am struggling to decide what cartridge I want. I have the list narrowed down to 2 : 25-06 and 358 Winchester. I know the legend of the 358 as an excellent deer cartridge and I have always been a huge fan of 25/06. Anybody have any experience with these 2 from MGM?
This rifle is going to be my primary hunting rifle where most shots will be under 300 yards. My only reluctance with the 358 is ammo availability. I have reloading supplies but it sure is nice to be able to buy something off the shelf sometimes in a pinch. If I go with 25-06 I will go with a fast twist barrel so I can shoot the 131gr blackjack bullets for fun but I will likely hunt with something factory. Any advice on this topic is greatly appreciated.
