Have gone twice and simply used a flying service to get us across Cook Inlet. They did some pre trip scouting, while transporting other hunters, to get us near some quarry. Got a 54 incher on the first outing. Second trip they did a fly by to see if we needed some meat hauled, saw no moose around, and moved us to a new spot. No scores though on that trip. Being non residents, we had to pass on everything seen that was sub 50 inches.

Not done a float trip, but some neighboring friends have. If taking that route, be water smart, and leave plenty of time to stop and hunt for several days. If one has to be floating every day to make his destination, there's really little time for actual hunting, and one has the exhausting tasks of breaking camp, floating, and building camp each day. Not a pleasant experience if one can't stop and smell the roses.

Trying to get my buddies out for another run, but they're getting old and worry too much.

Good luck and envious here,
