I am on the hunt for an old Herter's skinning knife. I've seen them referred to as a "buffalo skinner" "skinning knife" or just a "skinner". Herter's skinner brings up two options - one has the elliptical blade design with a short 4.5" blade. I have that one. I'm looking for the one with the longer 6"(?) blade with overall length of 11". Dad had them as a set, I've got his short one, and mom wants the larger one to stay in her kitchen, but I would like one exactly like it. Any tips on where to find one for a reasonable price? I've tried to talk mom out of it with no success. smile. I've got an Old Hickory skinner that I like, but I like the Herter's one better. And I'm sure there are better skinners out there, but they aren't the same as what I used when skinning deer with dad, who now resides in the nursing home.

"Daddy, can you sometime maybe please go shoot a water buffalo so we can have that for supper? Please? And can I come along? Does it taste like deer?"
