You can use ziploc bags if you use the thicker Freezer bags. You can also buy Mylar bags from Amazon and seal them yourself with a vacuum sealer.
Many people just wash out the MH pouch and reuse it for the trip also.
There are books out there about freezer bag meals. Do NOT get Freezer Bag Cooking: Adventure Ready Recipes by Sarah Kirkconnell. She's an idiot. The book has no contents, no index, no page numbers, and the recipes aren't even in alphabetical order. Her recipes aren't worth the frustration of using the book.
