The young engineer was surprised that an eight cylinder engine could be run with one carburetor. I'm pretty sure fuel injection has been the standard over the span of his life.
OTOH I was learning about small engine carbs from my father when I was in grade school a long time ago. By the time I was in middle school he had me adjusting the valve lash on the Volkswagen we had.
